When at the automatic teller machine, a person can get antsy when someone else is standing a bit too close - so what happens when companies outside of your financial institution start popping up ads on your screen? While ads have been showing up on-screen for quite some time now, they are typically just your bank trying to sell you a loan, or when you are at another bank's ATM, a note telling you that you wouldn't have had to pay their $2.00 fee had you banked there in the first place.
Finextra.com reports that Fox Home Entertainment is taking this route in order to grab "captive" viewers for its DVD promotion, going beyond the on-screen video of the films in question to leave a reminder on the "dynamically printed receipt." Hopefully this receipt isn't going to say something like "Hey, Tom, don't forget to pick up your copy of Ice Age the next time you buy a DVD!" because as simple as it sounds, it'll freak out a few people.
