Diller launches Ask Jeeves ad network

New Ask Jeeves owner Barry Diller wants to wet his beak a little from the online advertising network business. Diller's network is reportedly going to be modeled after and directly compete against Google and Yahoo, the leaders in the paid search game. This marks kind of a coming of age for Ask Jeeves since it has to this point been largely dependant on revenue gained by participating in Google's network. In fact that relationship is still active and the contract between the two companies extends through 2007. Google ads will continue to run on Ask Jeeves' sites but will be given lesser positioning to their own. Jeeves wants to have it both ways and, based on some comments in the article, is basically hoping Google won't pull the plug on the relationship.
