Church ads questioned by some

Last week I asked why Christianity needed to be promoted. It was more or less a hypothetical, but BBC News has an interesting article on the subject, and the efforts of some to update the image of the church (and Jesus) to appeal to the undecided. Of course, representing Jesus as Che Guevara got a few people riled up, who dubbed it "sacrilegious." This was back in 1999, and the "Jesus as Che" image was scrapped, though they'll be contorting Che's visage yet again for a Christmas campaign, but this time with the face of a small child. All of this, quite clearly, is an effort to attract the attention of those who typically ignore such ads. The questions is whether such ads cheapen the church's image or not.
