As a child growing up in the 80s, I remember a lot of people wearing those shirts with the tiny little alligator on them. Also, there were those who wore the shirt with the tiny little tiger on them. Apparently both of these were huge fashion statements, but as a child I never really understood why that was. It seems that both those brands (LaCoste and LeTigre) are trying to make a comeback. A recent outdoor campaign by LeTigre features a tiger tearing into an alligator (crocodile?). I guess both brands are already making a comeback, but I can't for the life of me figure out why that is.

1. Actually, Lacoste (crocodile) was a fashion statement, Polo (horse & rider) was the nouveau-riche-johnny-come-lately, Britannia (British flag) was for the rebel who didn't want to be too much of a rebel, Munsingwear (penguin) was for the kid whose dad bought shirts at the local country club.
And Le Tigre? Well, Le Tigre was for those unfortunate kids whose parents couldn't imagine spending $36 for a knit shirt.
The only thing less prestigous at the time than Le Tigre was The Fox from J.C. Penney.
