Summer Budget Travel Tips from Gadling

Orbitz targets gays and lesbians

Last night while watching Bravo I caught a commercial for Orbitz's gay and lesbian travel site. The commercial uses the same game show setting as their other commercials with Wink Martindale serving as host. Unlike many so-called "gay friendly" commercials, this one tossed subtlety out the window. It then backed over subtlety with a truck and buried it in the forest somewhere. The commercial pitted a gay travel agent against a man and his new boyfriend as they try to find the best travel deal first. The man's new boyfriend is enamored with his beau: hugging him, teasing his hair, and clinging to him while he surfs the Orbitz site. Many companies have tried to present a gay friendly image, but give Orbitz credit for doing it so openly.
