Rumors on eBay's plans for Skype

Many people have wondered over the last couple months about why exactly eBay, almost a pure-play retailer with the main site as well as offshoots such as Half.com, bought VIOP provider Skype. Well one of the plans mentioned by eBay CEO Meg Whitman is to offer pay-per-call advertising using Skype. Pay-per-call works in a similar manner to pay-per-click, but advertisers pay for the number of calls made as opposed to the number of click on an online ad. Using Skype's service the two would mesh so that online users could click on a link to make an online Skype call.
