Back in August I speculated that advertising would soon come to Google Talk, their just-launched foray into instant messaging. Turns off I was right in my thinking but wrong in the company I guessed about. Microsoft has introduced sponsored ads within its Messenger Instant Messaging offering. It's unclear as to how the ads are delivered but, as the article states, the potential for timeliness and relevance just took a dramatic leap forward. If ads are based on your current conversation then they're more likely to appeal to what's on your mind at that time and may have a pretty good click-rate.
