Back in 1978, it was all about preservation

whirlpoolMy, how times have changed. Weblogs, Inc.'s Victor Agreda, Jr., who writes over at Download Squad and TUAW writes in with a fantastic ad that he got a hold of, from 1978. The spot is for Whirlpool, makers of fine appliances such as dishwashers, refrigerators, and much more. What's most interesting about the spot is that not once does the ad show any products that Whirlpool makes. Sure, there's water, which is absolutely sloshing around in dishwashers everywhere to this day, but the eagle swooping down and catching a fish is kind of a curious way of looking at business.

The point of the spot is to describe the state of affairs in production of consumer equipment, or at least that's what I was getting out of it. Whirlpool is talking about sticking to a level of high quality, and not "giving in" just for the sake of doing so, to make more money, presumably - because we wouldn't want our big companies to become the endangered species like the particular eagle we see in the ad. Talk about drama!
