Star Wars begins Oscar campaign

Every year studios will take out ads in trade publications to encourage voters to consider certain movies for Academy Award nominations. Star Wars Episode III is no exception, and you can check out some of their ads here. Appropriately, most of the nods Star Wars is seeking have to do with visual effects and costume design, and not so much for things like acting and writing. Although, they are asking that Ian McDiarmid, who played The Emperor, be considered for Best Supporting Actor. Next week the Hollywood Reporter will include a five-page "For Your Consideration" ad that will feature a picture of Darth Vader and a chip which plays Vader's recognizable breathing sound.
