Reuters launches video network

Wire service Reuters is launching an ad-supported video affiliate network. Sites that participate in the network will have the option to include a 15-second spot to show before the news video starts. Initially the service will be offered free of charge to websites and will include ads placed before the video by Reuters. After the trial period is over the sites will be able to choose whether they want to pay to be in the program or get it for free with ads attached. Brightcove is providing the support on the technical aspects of the deal. The video will be compatible with either Windows or Mac operating sytems. If I had to guess I'd say most sites are going to go with the no-license-fee/ad-supported option because, quite frankly, it's cheaper. It's hard to argue with free and people haven't started revolting (yet) over ads via internet video so it's a win-win.
