Gather.com's approach

Gather.com, a Web site which is being touted as a kind of eBay for written content, will announce next week that it will be receiving $6 million in funds from the Lotus Development Corp and from Allen & Co., which is co-run by former senator Bill Bradley. The site will serve as a kind of depository of online content, a place for people to sort through all the "noise" of the blogosphere. If that sounds familiar, it's because there are already a lot of sites like Digg and Technorati trying to do exactly that. The site also hopes to lure new writers by offering them a cut of advertising revenue. According to chief executive officer Tom Gerace, it would be some time before the company would be able to pay any writer any kind of significant compensation. Meanwhile, it'll be interesting to see if the company really has means and the ways to try and accomplish what so many others are trying to do.
