I have to agree with Martha about the trailer and now the Super Bowl TV spot for Pixar's Cars: It could be a disaster. The trailer is a lot of fancy visuals but none of the wit and heart that we've come to expect from Pixars other efforts. The TV spot covers very little ground but has a very sophisticated look to it. I have to admit, as a racing fan, to loving the scenes of NASCAR type races and such but the other stuff just isn't working for me.
There was a cartoon from the 1930's, I think, that had talking planes that were part of a family and community at an airport and the concept behind Cars has always seemed similar to me. I have little doubt that the final film will be better than the trailer lets on. It is Pixar, after all, and they haven't let us down before. But I get the feeling from the trailer that they're putting these out there as soon as footage is finished and approved, regardless of whether it will work in a trailer or not. This could be the one that kills the streak Pixar is on but I hope not.
Check out the trailers from Pixar here.

1. How soon people forget the original Finding Nemo trailers, that had no sharks, australia, fish tank, dentists, beautiful seascapes, or... Nemo. Just Albert Brooks and Ellen Degeneres riffing off each other for 2 minutes.
Or the trailer for Monsters Inc. that had a 2 minute Crystal and Goodman monologue of "we found the wrong room".
Where are peoples' faith?
