Can Mos Def actually act? Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy didn't really answer that question since it was an awful movie and he looked like he wasn't sure what to do most of the time anyway. Bruce Willis, though, is a good actor. Unfortunately he seems to be the first name on the casting sheet for anyone looking for a cop character so he hasn't gotten many opportunities to stretch. The spot for 16 Blocks, which brings these two together for the first time, seems like an interesting concept since it's about Willis (a cop) escorting Def (a convict) across town while a bunch of dirty cops and others try to kill him. Add to that the fact that it seems to be shot in real time and it might be decent.
Except for the fact that it looks terrible. Even in the trailer we're shown that there will be at least three variations on the concept of Willis coming between the murderous cops and Def. So we're basically going to be given two hours of that scene over and over again. You can see for yourself at the movie's official website. My opinion, as is often the case with movies like this, is that there's too much focus on explosions and gun fights and not enough on actual character development.
