It's one of those things you're not supposed to laugh at, but it's really hard to
help yourself. It seems that Comcast customers in the Bay Area got a not-so-nice surprise yesterday morning when an ad
for an adult pay-per-view show aired during an episode of Nickelodeon's Fairly Odd Parents. Parents, rightly
enough, were not happy. There was no nudity in the ad, but, according to one parent, "they were in lingerie, and
just rubbing." Another parent went as far to say such images "can destroy the children." Yeah, that
might be overreacting just a little bit. Obviously someone dropped the ball here, but let's not turn it into the end of
all humankind as we know it. However, if twenty years from now any of these kids are in therapy because they saw
scantily-clad women for thirty seconds when they were younger, I'll take back what I said.
Comcast airs adult ad during kid's cartoon

(Page 3)42. Personally, I am sick to my stomach seeing all of these "male enhancement", "erectile dysfunction" commercials! Not to mention "That time of the month" products and "Performance enhancement oils and lotions".
Children are subject to this sort of thing on a consistant basis and I see no need for it. They are children for such a short time....let them enjoy their innocence! They grow up fast enough.....we do not need to fill their heads with adult ills and remedies.
The above mentioned commercials should be on TV during evening hours only! There are enough problems in the world without worrying about what is being displayed in our own living rooms in plain sight of minor children watching morning or afternoon cartoons. The media has gotten out of hand!

43. Kids at school, at the movies and just out in today's world are exposed to alot more than some sexy ad's. You might be surprised to know what your kids are seeing on the internet and the things that they write in emails to their friends, as well as websites that they might be putting pictures and personal info on that you don't really want them to. So before you get too gun-ho on this ad from your cable tv company you better get intouch with what your kids may be doing online.

44. I, too, do not want my child to watch adult commercials, so I chose commercial-free programming for my children like Noggin or PBS Sprouts. I, personally, do not like Nickolodeon, Cartoon Network, or any of those because of their commercials (geared towards adults or children), but if you are going to watch one of those stations, they will be exposed to many adult topics.

45. In response to James, as a mother of 3 under the age of 4 sometimes one does need to resort to tv to keep their children entertained while we do such necessary things as cook dinner and even go to bathroom once in a while. I don't think it's too much to ask that a tv station geared toward kids and I'm refering to Nick Jr. not the Sponge Bob and the other mindless cartoons on Nick should be free of questionable advertising. I do agree that the best course of action is downgrading cable service which we have done. PBS will hopefully not allow itself to fall privy to advertising.

46. Hmmm.. no wonder so many of America's children suffer from obesity at such a young age. Maybe if you didn't sit your kids in front of a tv all day than you wouldn't have to worry about what they're watching. I think it's a huge overreaction. TV commercials are very censored compared to what your kids are seeing at their own schools.

47. I know of alot of commercials that come on during childern's programs. But just because my 7 year old sees a Viagra ad, he's not going to think "When I'm old enough, I'm going to take those blue pills because they were on TV during Fairly Odd Parents." Sorry to disappoint the parents of America, but not every child thinks that way.

48. NO MATTER IF IT'S SEX, VIOLENCE, OR RACISM THE MEDIA AS A WHOLE NEEDS TO TAKE A BREATH AND LOOK AT WHAT THEIR IRRESPONSIBILITY IS PRODUCING. THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANYTHING SHOWING THESE THING WHEN OUR IMPRESSIONABLE CHILDREN ARE WATCHING. HOWEVER IF THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT ENFORCE OR PUT THESE LAWS IN PLACE THEN THEY ARE PUTTING THE COUNTRY AT RISK.
MANY SHOWS THAT WE LOVE GET AWAY WITH THIS NEGLECT DURING THE 6PM TO 9PM VIEWING HOURS. BUT WHEN A GIRL IS RAPPED BY A 16 YEAR OLD, OR A GROCERY STORE IS ROB BY A KID WITH WHAT HE THINKS IS A COOL GUN, WE HAVE TO REMEMBER THEY SAW IT FIRST ON POLICE SHOWS LIKE "LAW & ORDER" OR COMMERCIALS THAT TALK ABOUT PRODUCTS THAT ENHANCE SEXUAL ABILITIES. THESE PROJECTIONS ONLY RESULTS IN STIMULATING THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS OF CHILDREN THAT CANNOT YET PROCESS THE REALITY.
AS PARENTS AND CONCERNED CITIZENS WE NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR YOUTH. AND ALL WE ASK IS THAT THE MEDIA AND THOSE THAT PARTICIPATE AS ARTIST OR PRODUCERS ALSO TAKE A HIGHER LEVEL OR RESPONSIBLY.
BECAUSE IF THEY DON'T, A GUN MIGHT BE POINTING IN THEIR FACE AND THE CHILD BEHIND IT MIGHT BELONG TO THEM.

49. An ad like that on kid's tv is just funny. Is it damaging to our kids? I suppose there's a chance. But don't we as americans also let our kids listen to 50 cent? We let them play video games, like Grand Theft Auto? Bloody violence and adult themed music is okay, but a set of lingerie-clad boobs is a problem? I know not all the effected people let their kids listen to 50 and play GTA, but a lot of them do. I know some people who's kids play GTA and listen to things like 50 more than I ever have. People, the female form is not evil...so ease up!!!
50. I WONDER IF ANY OF THESE CHILDREN ARE EVER ALLOWED TO GO TO THE BEACH??? THERE ARE WOMEN AND MEN THAT WEAR EVEN LESS AT LAKES, BEACHES AND POOLS....
HMMMMM... DO THESE PARENTS MAKE THEIR CHILDREN WEAR BLINDFOLDS IF AND WHEN THEY ARE ALOWED TO GO TO THE BEACH, LAKE, OR POOL TO GO SWIMMING? KINDA MAKES YA WONDER ....

51. ..the point being, it happened and it should not have...what is being done about it...do we look the other way and consider it to be an "oops"....or do we stand now and not have to cry out when the media begins bombarding our minds with more sexual stimuli..i personally am tired of seeing food sold in a sexual way...i never knew what a turn on rice could be...until i saw it on t.v......how far do we let it go before its safe to say...enough....

52. blah blah blah... want to protect your intelligent little prodigy? TURN OFF THE TV ...it makes a society of mindless morons anyway!!!

53. Oh come on people, you are over reacting big time! The kids wouldn't even pay attention to it until you, the parents, go crazy and make it a big deal, then the kids WANT to know what it's about. We are not able to teach them religion anymore - why not? Now you go nuts over something that most kids see at home in your bedroom. Relax, now go check out the video games your kids have and see how violent they are - but that's ok?

54. I just want to know...how many kids do you know that actually sit there and watch commercials? That's prime potty time or a kitchen break. And beyond that, some cartoons nowadays have questionable material themselves. It's a crazy world out there and children are gonna be exposed to new things every day. It's your job as parents to help your child take that new info and learn from it as much as they can. Maybe parents should take that opprotunity to talk to kids about good and bad touches from adults or something just as valuable instead of jumping down comcast's throats.

55. Sounds like the folks in programming plugged in the wrong commercial for airing. This happens a lot more often than it used to, perhaps people just aren't as conscientious about their work these days.
It seems whenever the subject of children and inappropriate media content comes up their is an unusually high number of people who want to say parents are over reacting. These people judge veiwing content of a sexual nature by their own desires. Not that of the childs. "Coming of age" is a sweet, fun, natural process that comes in its own time. When rushed, the sweetness of innocence is lost.

57. Ok I am amazed that kids actually have time to watch tv before going off to school. I never did. Anyway, the parents are right for being upset at such commercial ads on children's programming stations if they keep occuring. However, if it was an accident of one or two times then let it go. Or instead of tv put your childs favorite video in for them to watch before going off to school. (You know, the ones you spoil them with, they are now laying allover your kids bedroom floor out of thier boxes being stepped on and scratched or torn up). That's one way to solve the problem!
I watch these channels all the time and it never occured to me to pay attention to the ads they run during that time. I am sure it's never occurred to network producers either. All they think about is the money. I am positive though, that if Tyra knew her ads were running on a childrens channel she wouldn't like it very much. Anyway that's my two cents worth ;)

58. You have got to be kidding. Obviously your kids do not go to school. There is NOTHING on tv now a days that they don't learn from their friends at school or at home. I find that most of the parents that are the complainers are the ones that let their kids run wild anyway or usually are the ones that let their kids watch whatever they want. I bet your kids were allowed to watch Titanic and it had a nude and sex scene in it. So please let it go, there are more things to life than a rising blood pressure over something that alot of your kids already know about. I can't believe the things my kids knew just from riding the bus. I sat down and discuss/explained to them and now it's not a curisity to them. 1 last note on some of the reads: what on earth is a 10 year old watching Dora Dora for anyway, I can guarentee he's into Dragonball Z and Inyuasha which I find 2 of the worst tv shows out there.

59. To all the "parents" offended by the commercials on "so called" safe channels like Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, etc.....Why don't you try being a REAL PARENT and spend time with your children and actually talk to them and explain the differences between right and wrong? Quit dumping them in a room with nothing but to do but watch tv while hoping that cable/satellite companies and broadcasters will assume the responsibility of raising your children for you!!!! If you don't want to be responsible adults and raise your own children then STOP HAVING THEM!!!! And for the ignorant souls who will reply that not all pregnancies are planned....I remind you that if you all practiced some of that "responsibility" that you chastize broadcasers for not employing....then there would be greatly reduced numbers of "accidental" pregnancies. Notice....I did not say there would be "no more" so please don't chime in with cases of rape and the like....I recognize that these things are happening. However....at the risk of sounding heartless even though that is not my intention...I will say this....being a rape victim, while sad, does not give you a pass as far as raising your kids! If you have them raise them and if it would create such a hardship....put them up for adoption so someone who is both able and WILLING can raise them!!!! I don't support abortion....I just support responsibility!!! Now....Are you ready to deal?

60. Let's get real. If you are so worried about scarring "little Jimmy", get rid of the TV! It really is as simple as that.
Times change, as do people. I have seen some horrible stuff during my childhood years, and might I say, it has not made me the person I am today.

41. I know its not quite the same, but a few months ago, Nickolodeon aired a commercial for Desperate Housewives that was not appropriate for children. When I reached them, they said to write (snail mail) to them and someone would get back to me.
How is it that these companies can be so concerned over the ramifications of another nipple showing up on the next superbowl, but don't have a second thought to taking severe action against adult commercials airing on a children's network? How much are they going to be fined for it? Does it even matter?
So we pay for cable and direct tv and so on, and we get the added assurance that we can block certain channels and ratings from our children, are we going to have to start blocking the childrens' networks? If that is the case, I for one, will not be needing cable anymore and will cancel my service.
Hopefully, there won't be anymore "slipups". If there are, we as consumers, have the power to put these people out of businiess. We just have to ask ourselves, "is it worth it?" I know my children are worth it.
