It's one of those things you're not supposed to laugh at, but it's really hard to
help yourself. It seems that Comcast customers in the Bay Area got a not-so-nice surprise yesterday morning when an ad
for an adult pay-per-view show aired during an episode of Nickelodeon's Fairly Odd Parents. Parents, rightly
enough, were not happy. There was no nudity in the ad, but, according to one parent, "they were in lingerie, and
just rubbing." Another parent went as far to say such images "can destroy the children." Yeah, that
might be overreacting just a little bit. Obviously someone dropped the ball here, but let's not turn it into the end of
all humankind as we know it. However, if twenty years from now any of these kids are in therapy because they saw
scantily-clad women for thirty seconds when they were younger, I'll take back what I said.
Comcast airs adult ad during kid's cartoon

(Page 4)62. No one has mentioned that the particular cartoon that was being shown is outrageous itself. I have seen small parts of Fairly Odd Parents... I made my 12 yr old grandson turn it off. It is awful.

63. Accidents happen weather they're intentional or not. Our kids are going to see, hear, and learn this stuff as soon as they step into civilization! It's everywhere from our own houses to friends and school. What we as parents need to do is be open and honest (age appropriatley) with our children. If we teach them right from wrong now, our world will be a better place in the future. Just think what our grandchildren will be going through when they have kids!!! (and I am only 27!) Yikes!

64. "WHO GIVES A RATS A%@, KIDS KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS CRAP THAN MOST ADULTS DO, OR MOST PARENTS THINK THEIR KID S DO!!!!!

65. As parents, we are ultimately responsibility for guiding and teaching our children. It seems that everyone knows that TV has things on it that they view as inappropriate for children, so who really is to blame for the children being exposed to something inappropriate? Parents. So, police yourselves and quit expecting others to do your job as a parent for you. My children have seen things that cause them to ask questions, and when they do I respond with an answer that is appropriate for their maturity level. It is amazing what open communication with your children can do to help them develop into well-rounded adults. Parents be parents and stop whining about stuff you allow your child to be exposed to. Read them a book or play a game with them instead of letting them watch TV if you are really concerned about it.

66. What a great conversation starter to talk to your kids about the birds and the bees. Its never to early to teach them especially in this day in age. Kids are expermenting with sex at 10 and 11 years old. We as parents need to educate our kids and not shelter them. If we dont teach them someone else will. My parents never spoke to me about it and I wish they would had.

67. What difference does it make. When the 30 year old virgin was in theaters and just released on DVD I had my 6 year old asking me what a virgin was. This commercial was on tons of channels throughout the day.I think we've far crossed the line as a society. Now it's up to the parents to be there to limit what's seen by kids. It's obvious the networks and government are beyond caring.

68. i'm more offended by shows like dora the explorer and go diego go that teaches our children spanish instead of shows teaching spainish kids english.

69. Have you ever been faced with a sexual offender living in your neighborhood? How do you think they GOT that way?
Many people accept pornography as "normal" for adults. But, it is poison. It can be like alcohol. Some people cannot handle it, and they become sexual deviants, eventually abusing our innocent children and it goes on.......
Our society has slid so far morally that it is inevitable that kids will become messed up. We must recognize that we have to protect them from not just shows, but commercials, too. I was watching "Home Alone" with my whole family cozied up in front of the TV this weekend. During a break, we were affronted with this "Extra" moment with Dana Devon where two famous girls were in some naked pose next to each other. (There were some small fuzzy spots over the most private parts.) I was upset, turned the channel, (my 13 yr old was so uncomfortable that he left the room) then when I turned it back, it was STILL showing that soft porn and talking about showing someone or other's "butt crack" Why this is "NEWS" that TBS thinks kids and families need to hear, I don't know.
I don't think ANY amount of prnography is safe, but there can be no sane argument that it must be kept away from our developing young people's eyes.

70. Do you have any children Mr. Finley? I think you write your comments in hopes of stirring up some controversy. Just don't do it where kids are involved.

71. It's not like it's something new! it happens a lot and people just ignore it! A popular children's site "neopets" has a game where a character pops out and says 'Smeg!'. The game is called "Whack-A-Staff-Member" ironically, because I sure would like to whack the guy who added that to an innocent game! If you look it up, that is a slang term, short for smegma (the oils and crust that can collect under a man's foreskin on his penis, or between a woman's labia). I know because my neice asked me what that meant and I looked it up! NOT something I want a child under a certain age to know OR use in polite conversation. It should not be on a children's site...but it costs a lot to re-program that game, so they ignored my complaints! Everything comes down to the almighty dollar.

72. Get real! maybe you should play with your kids and not have them watch t.v.! Do you think that they will never be the same again? i agree from a early post, sue......why not its the american thing to do. get real, get lives, get dvds.

73. You know, this is something that is totally uncalled for. Your comment about the therapy is stupid. Just because some parents want their children to grow up and become decent human beings, they should not be shunned. It is very hard with things as they are today, girls showing their belly buttons in every day dress, shirts so tight that all shows and shorts so high that their buns are hanging out, men wearing their pants so low their cracks are showing. I guess that is ok for the adult world, but this is the same thing that was shown on Disney, a commerical of Dukes of Hazzard where Daisy's bunns were all you could see in one shot. I agree with "HOOTER" when he said that the new movie was not morally what the Dukes of Hazard was originally all about. No drugs, no fowl language and the decency that it showed in the original series. This is just an example of how irrisponsible people in power are getting. So if we, as parents, are trying to raise our children to be decent adults, I agree with the parents comments. The media should be more responsible and support these parents. So should you. JERK!

74. If the kids weren't watching TV in the first place, they wouldn't be subjected to the questionable ads. Parents who use the TV as a babysitter shouldn't complain about the content. Read a book to your kid. Play games with them.

75. We live in the Denver area and have Comcast too. This winter during a Christmas special, I think it was "Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer", Comcast aired a commercial promoting the play "Little Shop of Horrors" and at the end of the commercial the venus fly trap eats a mom with her son. My four year old was tramatized by it. It really freaked him out. You'd think that they would have chosen to advertise this ad at different time. I was so angry!

76. How absolutey ridiculous the way people in this country think, on the average a child sees far more violence in one year on TV then they should. Thats whats we should be worried about, not scantily clad women, or even people making love. The number of people shot, tortured, raped, or even just physical abuse, thats depicted in everything from cartoons to prime time shows, and even on the news is insane. Yet the censors and, the public in general, seem to think that this is OK. Its a shame that all this attention is given to one mistake that shows nothing, yet wheh shows like CSI, NYPD Blue, to name just a couple examples, constantly show blood splatted bodies & crime scenes, or worse, just goes to show you how backwards, and numb our way of thinking towards violence has become. Think about it which is really worse, 1)two people in the embraces of love or, 2) a TV crime show, thats shows a corpse covered with blood! The insanity in this country has got to stop. In other countries, such as Japan, Great Britian, they show naked people, and topless women in the commercials, and in TV shows frequently. Yet our TV is filled with violence constantly, and, I feel, far more frequently than anything sexual. Which country has the most violence too,by far, the USA. Wake up people!

Yeah your right. It was yours they saw while they were feeding. Quick Starve the NEWBORN. How about when your wife/hubby wanted the nookie and Jr./Jane was 6mo-1yr old in the crib in your bedroom (cause you didnt have space to make another room for your 2nd child)staring at you? If he/she comes to you at 12-18 years old and says "Hey Mom, Dad do you remember......?" I will inform you that your child is a medical miracle and I will apologize. Nuff Said

78. Please be for real, if you take a look at the "hero" cartoons nowadays..the outfits are conformed to the complete body accentuating the body from the form of their breasts and snug behinds...it is better that your children learn this from you than from school or the streets..but some of you are sounding so prudish and that may be what ends up traumatizing the child more into therapy than a simple slip up..get over it!

79. Although yes it was bad that they showed such a commercial at this time of day, a mix of good parenting with this mistake will effectivly counter it if it does hold any effect on them.

80. If the T.V show is for children, then the commercials should be, too! Kids are exposed to enough without having it slammed in their face during a cartoon...I think it is highly inappropriate and very irresponsible!

61. To say that children will be "destroyed" from this event is ludicrous. Children learn about such things at a younger age these days. Parents need to stop being so overly protective and accept the fact that, this is hilarious.
