ABC is working with a company called Delivery Agent to allow
viewers to purchase products they see on shows like Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy and others. The
items will be available online at ShopABCTV.com, which already sells items from
a variety of daytime ABC shows. Much of the article is spent refuting the notion that this is about product placement.
In other words, the items available for purchase aren't ones that are on the show as a result of a paid placement deal.
It might not be now, but it will be. I virtually guarantee it. There's been speculation and half-started attempts at
business models like this in the past and now that paid placement is such big business this seems like a natural
extension. It won't be too long before someone pays to have an item worn by one of the Housewives that will then be
available "exclusively" at ABC's online store.
