giant Sears is seriously considering ending
its 16-year-long relationship with home improvement guru Bob Vila. In his place would be stud-of-the-moment Ty
Pennington. Pennington and Sears aren't exactly strangers to begin with. The store sponsors his show Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition and Craftsman is the tool brand of choice on the show. Right now Pennington has done
various advertising for Sears and has a line of soft goods bearing his name in Sears outlets. The shift is based on the
fact that Pennington's show, along with his previous stint on Trading Spaces, has given him such exposure
that he's a household name. Despite the potential (eventual?) split with Vila it doesn't seem there are any plans for
Pennington to begin hawking Craftsman tools outside of their use on the show. The concern seems to be that he's too
"touchy-feely" for the Craftsman crowd.Sears Dropping Bob for Ty

(Page 4)62. I agree with John Ciancio. My husband and I have been long time customers of Sears and went to get a new battery for my 2003 Buick and the person blew out my computer while trying to jump the car to pull it into the stall. Needless to say we had to take it to the dealer to get a new computer that cost us 854.00 plus the tow and Sears will not make it right. I would advise enyone to NEVER shop Sears. I presented them with proof that the car was at their store just before having to go to the dealer and they will not take responsibility. If I did not have to work I would picket their store. Do NOT trust Sears!!

64. I am glad to see Bob Villa go. I never did like the way he was always touching everything. We were at a convention show in St. Louis and he was there. I thought he was a jerk. He was rude. I never felt he was the carpenter he wanted everyone to think he was. Good bye Bob Villa. Welcome Ty.

65. I think both represent the current change for Sears. Bob is still an all around household name and Ty is young and moving forward with his dream (Extreme House Makeover) show which really adverstises Sears products and appliances since all the new homes are furnished with Sears appliances/products. Ty is an advertisement for Sears as well. Both men represent a very good and relialbe store SEARS. Keep them both. Thank you.

66. Well Sears has finally move into the 21st Century. Bob Villa is past, time to move on Ty would be good for Sear's new image.

67. Bob Villa is tried and true ... he's a MUST HAVE and Sears will be on the losing end if they let him go. Ty is maybe reaching the younger audience so I say keep them both with Villa as the lead and Ty as the second. Ty needs to earn his way, not depend on that baby face ... looks won't get respect the way experience does. Keep Villa. Maybe on Ty.

Keep Villa. Keep Villa. Keep Villa.

69. as a professional woodworker I have noticed the wrong information given to "doityourselfers" on the
"easytodoit" shows on tv.. my respect to the shows where hand tools are used for most of the operations..
have anybody seen a diy show where the power tools used are the ones that the majority of people can afford to have them at home?? what about safety?? did they forget about it??
have you seen mr bob vila doing any hard job?? me personally, I don't see any difference if sears keep BOB or brings TY both are decorative figures..
I respect mr norm abrams but in his shows also expensive machinery and a huge shop is shown..

70. Sears has the best of two worlds at the moment..I hope that they will reconsider making a change...Both of these men bring a lot to the table and to remove Bob V would be no different than McDonalds removing the M and all of their logos. As for Ty..he is successful and to over expose him could be a huge mistake..

71. Bob Villa is an icon. Ty is the new generation. Maybe they could combine them somehow. Bob will be around long after Ty is forgotten.

72. I like Ty - think he's a great designer. Put him in the Home Decorating area. Enjoy Extreme Makeover if I find time to watch it when nothing else is on. If I want to know about tools I watch Bob and Norm Abrams. This Old House is a classic and I never tire of watching it or New Yankee Workshop, which is outstanding. Simple as that.

73. Take it from someone who knows...
BoB Vila is a TV personality the same as Ty.
Bob relied on professional craftsmen like Norm Abram to show how to do the work, and tho' the over the top screaming has become TY's screen personna, it is his hands on skills and knowledge that I respect.

74. Bob is a hands on guy and Ty is -maybe knowledgable about tools but he doesn't seem to know anything except MOVE THE BUS. Bob V is interesting - Ty is entertaining

75. Not taking sides here, but if anyone ever watched Trading Spaces, they would know that Ty is a trained carpenter. (Not a sex-symbol though) His new show does allow him to design. Bob Vila may be a carpenter, but I've never seen him do more than piece work on an episode. He is also a designer. That is evident from his conversations with homeowners. The question is which of these two men more reflects the next generation of Sears shoppers? And truthfully, how many men buy tools based on the commercial face in the ad or do they buy based on the usability and durability of craftsmanship of the tools, regardless of the commercial face?

76. I used to watch "This old house", I re-named it "That old a**hole". Thought Bob was a condecending grouchy know it all. Ty is entertaining and nice to look at....BUT Norm IS the "craftsman"....pick him!!!!!!!!

77. I have been a fan of Villa for years. Yes he is an icon. But like an old car it is time for a fresh face with bold new ideas. Sears needs to update its stuffy dated image. Great start go SEARS....Change is good!

78. Are you people mad?!?!? Bob Vila is a do-nothing. He was an ice-cream man before he was walking on TV sets watching everyone else work. Now, I'm sure he can make a heck of a sundae, but I have never seen him do anything for a house- never seen him cut crown moulding, never seen him hang drop ceilings, nothing. He will ask the contractor, "Can I try that?", work for 10 seconds, and walking on to the next location.
Oh, and don't give me the, "They edit Bob working for time!" argument. I work in television. I know what they do "for time"...
Sears should have dumped Bob long ago.

79. In the midst of all this gay frenze that we are all experiencing I have no doubt the Ty will be choosen over Bob. Just look at the programing on "home and garden magazine" cable channel. All the home improvements or restoration shows have openly gay overtones. They show many gay couples that live together (introduced the other as partner) and designed their own home redesigns. It is a sign of the times that MANLY men are out and GIRLY men are in. I'll side with Bob and Norm, build my Cape Cod w/large garage, and drive my musclecar.

80. BOB VILA IS THE BEST CHOICE. I USE BOB'S PROGRAM NOT TO SEE HOW MUCH HARD LABOR HE'S DOING, BUT HOW MUCH HE'S NOT, I'VE LEARNED ALOT OF WAYS TO GET THE JOB DONE JUST BY WATCHING HIS PROGRAM. HIS EXPERIENCE IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT, NOT HIS LOOKS, WHICH BY THE WAY
SEARS, BOB IS STILL TOO YOUNG AND VALUABLE TO PUT OUT TO PASTURE.

61. I like Ty and I love his show -- usually brings tears to my eyes. I also like Norm . . .I say go with Norm AND Ty ... It would definitely give the Sears commercials a much needed "lift"!
