We followed Rocketboom's search for an advertiser, which they conducted through an eBay auction, from beginning to ending. Well Monday the first ad
produced by Amanda Congdon and the Rocketboom team was included in the show and
I finally watched it last night. The ad, for ATM and photocopying company TRM, was just about what you'd expect from
Rocketboom. It was funny, offbeat and made you want to come back for more. Congdon appeared as an out of work young
woman who sees TRM as some sort of money-making opportunity and appears for a brief while in tights and a cape
(fulfilling the fantasies of half the guys watching) running around a park. It's not a self-contained spot but instead
ends with "To be continued..." as if we needed another reason to keep watching Rocketboom.
If you look closely you just might glimpse the future of online video advertising in there. Forget (if you already haven't) the traditional 30-second spot. Allowing the creative people who produce the content that surrounds the ads to create those ads just might be one of the keys to successful online ads. Good stuff.
