Slate's Seth Stevenson has an interesting piece on a new commercial from Century 21, part of the companies effort to make real estate agents seem relevant again during an uncertain time in the housing market when people are finding alternatives to locating new homes, such as the Web. The spot, which you can view below, shows an extremely assertive woman essentially forcing her complete milquetoast of a husband into agreeing to purchase a new house. Many people have complained about the woman being a manipulative witch, but some blame should go to the husband too, who shouldn't be so spineless regarding such a big decision. The best part comes at the end when we find out their agent has been listening to their conversation via the phone the whole time. By the time it's over, it's not clear exactly what the ad is saying, or how it makes the agent's role in all of this any more relevant.
Thanks to Keith over at TV Squad for mentioning this.

1. The problem with this asd is that we never hear the husband's objections. So we don't know whether he's a real estate coward, or perhaps is the only person mindful of the family's imminent bankruptcy! Either way, the agent's relevance is murky. Bad ad.
