Online ad spending up in first quarter

Some interesting facts and figures for your Tuesday/Wednesday reading:
  • Spending on online advertising was up 9.3 percent in the first quarter of 2006.
  • 41 percent of surveyed buyers said that they or their clients had increased their online spending by ten percent or more. Overall 72 percent of respondents had upped spending from fourth quarter of 2005.
  • 55 percent said that CPM costs had risen from Q4 2005 for premium inventory, likely meaning big portals and other large volume sites.
  • Keyword costs were up ten percent or more according to over half of the survey takers.
  • Google accounted for 44 percent of all keyword spending, Yahoo 20 and MSN 5.
