Chicago taxi cabs are about to get rooftop and door-side ads following city council approval of the idea. So far about 2,175 of the city's 6,900 cabs have applied to run the ads, which will be sold by two agencies. Some companies who have already signed on include Snickers, Miller Beer and a host of others. Cab ads are already common-place in cities like New York but have been verboten here in Chi-town up until this point. Some are concerned that this seems to be more about the city getting some more tax revenue - it would collect a portion of the sales in taxes - than about the cab company or driver actually making money. The driver would make about $1 a day from having an ad on his or her cab, which would hardly cover the increased cost of gas over the last year. That might get even lower as more cabs have the ads on them.Chicago cabs approve ads

4. I don't see what the big deal is about this. We are plagued with ads everywhere we go. Why should a roof of a taxi cab be any different? Is it really that displeasing or that much of an inconvience? Seriously now are we a city of that big of pre-madonnas? So what if the city makes some extra money doing this. The city has to get more money from somewhere, so its either ads ontop of cabs, or increased taxes on everything we do and own. I'll take the ads than a ding to my wallet.
