Code.tv all about the advertising

This article about the new Code.tv online television station (you read that right) makes it seem like the creators are doing some sort of public service by creating a channel for young adults 25 to 49 who earn $100,000 or more a year. They label it an underserved market that really needed a voice for itself in the wilderness of the media world. What it's really about, though, is advertising dollars. The site doesn't have advertisers yet but soon will. Access to young adults with lots of disposable cash will be lucrative to advertisers after the reach is proven in some regard. If, for instance, the network can prove they get 25,000 visitors a week or so that's a good audience for advertisers of cars, personal electronics and other luxury lifestyle items. Providing a channel that can garner the attention of young affluent adults will be a great selling point.
