The Center for Science in the Public Interest has joined other groups in a class action lawsuit against Kentucky Fried Chicken. The plaintiffs want KFC to either reduce the amount of trans fat in their food or post warnings about trans fat levels in many of their foods. CSPI sees the lawsuit as the only avenue through which to affect change since neither the company nor the FDA seem willing to take on the issue. - CBS has launched a new entertainment site called Showbuzz.com. The site will feature what they're calling "session ads," or ads from a single advertiser throughout the visitor's...ummm...visit. A CBS exec says the site will not accept ads for appointment-based viewing such as TV shows.
- Some background and history is given to the battle over Cablevision's plan to launch a networked DVR to its subscribers. The DVR would be centrally located, meaning instead of each house having one the subscriber's TV would be connected to a DVR at a Cablevision facility. Hollywood studios think this crosses the line into being a video-on-demand service and therefore they want VOD-style royalties. Cablevision maintains this is only slightly different from in-home DVRs and doesn't make it a VOD offering.
