Online interactive communities have become popular among a lot of people, and companies using those communities as a place to advertise is certainly not a new development. However, what exactly is the point of advertising a car on an online community geared at kids who are too young to drive? Well, ask Toyota, which has been advertising its Scion on the interactive Web community Whyville (whyville.net). Actually, the reasoning is obvious: they want to start building "brand loyalty" at a young age, and they're hoping the addition of the new "ride" to the game will help kids influence their parents the next time they buy a new vehicle. Of course, if my parents had listened to my suggestion as to which vehicle they should have purchased when I was eight, they would have been driving around in the batmobile, so I'm not sure anyone should listen to their kids in that respect.

(Page 1)2. Why not advertise the teens who will be able to drive shortly? They will be surrounded by 'pimped' out cars and will want a real one when they are older. Most people who can already drive know that cars are not as fun and great as teens see a scion as.

3. I find my car fun and great! I drive a Scion tC for the record and its a blast to have! I am plain jane stock except for some techno toys inside. No rims or whatnot on the outside.
All the cars in the Scion lineup are appealing..why do you think Nissan, Honda, Dodge..etc are jumping on the band wagon now? Toyota is making major strides with a younger generation and selling alot of vehicles while doing it.

1. The nature of Toyota's entire ad campaign around the Scion is based around kids who are too young to drive. Plus I think that if a parents kid is says that their family should get one, the parent will see how small and ugly of a car these are(though the coup does look a little apealing).
