Slate's Seth Stevenson is turned-off by the new series of ads for Macs. He thinks the ads, which portray Mac users as hip and energetic people who want to get things done and PC users as people hopelessly lost, are so offensive as to have exactly the opposite effect they're intended to have. Labeling himself as someone who is a PC user who is occasionally tempted to switch to Macs, Stevenson says the depictions of PC users in a stereotypical manner coupled with the depiction of a Mac user in a stereotypical manner makes him really not want to buy one. That being said he think the understated and funny performance by John Hodgman as the PC user is hilarious, even in what 's supposed to be a thankless role. Are the new Mac ads just mean?

(Page 2)23. Seth Stevenson misses the point that these ads are directed towards the hip young iPod users who Apple hopes will switch to macs. Apple's switch to the Intel based chip could spell trouble for Dell down the road, as they give users the best of both platforms IMHO.

24. I have been a PC user since I was in elementary school. I am now 21 years old and I just recently purchased my first mac, the new MacBook Pro with the Intel Core Duo processor. I love it. I have to say, i have had this system since April when they launched and it has not crashed once. I purchased Office:mac and it is way better than any Dell PC's that I have owned. Now, i hate these new commercials just because they are so retarded, but what they are stating is true. The mac os is much more user friendly than the Windows OS, it is easier to edit photos, create webpages, download images from camera, and avoid viruses amongst other things. The fact is yes there are virus for mac, however I would say 99.9% of the viruses out there attack windows because it is much more widely used and easier to find ways to compromise it. This former bill gates idol has discovered the "It just works" way of an Apple and I am not turning back.

21. Tim nailed it. These are gross generalizations of the machines and not their users. To any who might say that this borders on false advertising, which is laughable, you obviously are not an advertiser and know nothing about the current state of marketing and/or advertising. Just know that legal departments run marketing and advertising departments at large corporations such as Apple and if these ads even had one iota of so called "false advertising", they would have never seen the light of day. Some of you PC biggots are just as bad, or worse, than Mac loyalists.
