As anticipated, Google has launched its online purchasing system. Instead of the expected name GBuy, the service is simply called Checkout. What's most interesting is that they have tied the service in directly with AdWords. Participating advertisers can have a Checkout icon displayed in their ads showing their online shopping sites are Checkout-enabled. The icon, though, will only be displayed on Google sites and not those of AdSense publishers. Those advertisers who sign up will get some of the fees associated with purchases waived. The system is being co-marketed by Citibank, who is offering its customers reward points for using Checkout.
