Researchers Greg Stuart and Rex Briggs have spent the last five years tracking $1 billion in marketing spending from some of the biggest companies to see what money was wasted and what wasn't. Their findings, released in the form of a book called "What Sticks," show about 37 percent of all advertising is wasted. Federated Department Stores, which owns Macy's, is prepping the launch of a national advertising campaign that will be bypassing those smaller papers.
- Under Armour has been named an official footwear supplier to the National Football League. Not only does that mean the company gets to outfit players in their gear, but they'll get promotional and advertising deals with the NFL's online properties and the broadcast networks that carry games.
