(Quick note: The original title of this was "Electronic Arts splits difference...with a huge friggin' chainsaw!" Just thought I'd share that. Instead of going with one over the other, video game maker Electronic Arts has decided that two in-game ad placement firms should share the honor of placing ads in EA's games. Massive, a firm that was recently bought by Microsoft, will be commissioned to place ads for four titles for PC as well as, unsurprisingly, Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. The first title in this deal will be "Need for Speed: Carbon." For a series of other titles, EA has contracted with IGA for ad serving. "Battlefield 2142" will be the first title under this agreement. Rafat at PaidContent also notes that EA exec Chip Lange is speculating Google and Yahoo will likely follow Microsoft's lead and purchase one of the three remaining video game ad-placement firms still up for grabs.
9/5 UPDATE: The Onion asks a series of random people on the street what they think of this.
