I really enjoy the latest round of Geico ads, the ones that have a celebrity "translating" the stories of Geico customers who have gotten into accidents or other insurance-related messes. And I get what they're trying to do, and it usually works. We have Little Richard doing his crazy Little Richard thing, Charo doing her coochie-coo, Peter Graves doing a semi-serious acting riff, sort of like his Airplane character, and we have deep-voiced movie announcer Don LaFontaine making the woman's story sound like the a movie trailer. Clever stuff.
But the newest one has Verne Troyer in it, and I really don't get the point. All he does in the ad is repeat what the Geico customer has said, then at the end he does a little rap. First, it's not funny. Second, there's no point to it. At least with the other celebs they're making fun of what they're known for, but are we supposed to laugh "because Verne Troyer is short"?
I don't get it.
