Cap'n Crunch begins
Like most classic cereal mascots, the voice of Cap'n Crunch has changed over the years, but one thing about his voice has always remained: no matter what era the commercial came from, the Cap'n always sounds like he's completely sauced. I'm completely serious, just watch any Cap'n Crunch commercial from any time period and the Cap'n will sound like he's just polished off a bottle of vodka. Why the hell they let him control a ship of any kind is beyond me. Daws Butler, the voice of Yogi Bear and several other Hanna-Barbera characters, provided the original voice of the Cap'n. The animation was done by Jay Ward Productions, creators of Rocky and Bullwinkle. According to Toonopedia, the Cap'n's full name was "Captain Horatio Magellan Crunch."

3. Duh, it's rum, not vodka. Only Russian sailors drink vodka. The rest of the world's sailors and especially those with the completely British moniker "Horatio" drink rum. Shame on you.

7. Why Sure, he was wasted! So were we, while watching Gilligan's Island with the sound turned off, on acid, and the commercials, especially Capn Crunch! We ate a lot of that junk during that time!And we're still alive to talk about it!

9. How refreshing!!! This was done when advertising was at its most creative - with creative minds, creative art, CEO's who cared about how entertaining ads were to sell a product and political correctness had nothing to do with selling a product. Violence, alcoholism, cigarettes, we all knew who "Wally Gator" and "Snagglepus" really were! Gee, I want some Capt'n Crunch now!!! Oh wait, they took out all the sugar. And it doesn't stand up in milk anymore. Wait, there isn't any more milk as we know it. Shoot!

11. Mandy is absolutely right. Those commercials were funny. They weren't "politically correct" garbage like so much of today's stuff. And Capt'n Crunch's sounding drunk just made them that much funnier.

13. How DUMB can you get. It is a freaking kids cereal commercial. Do you have Cap'n Crunch Envy. Listen we all can not grow up and be know, for something positive. Grow up and get a life! And quit making something innocent into something sick and discusting

17. Funny, Rocky & Bullwinkle had a sea captain character, too. Captain Peachfuzz, if I remember correctly. Same kind of intoxicated, pixilated voice, but with a slight lisp. I don't think 'ol Captn Crunch was too big a stretch for the brilliant Jay Ward folks.

18. I agree with #12, the peanut butter crunch is the best! I've loved that cereal since I was a kid. Now my kids love it. I have to wonder why the folks are making fun of a cartoon character.So what if his voice sounds like a rum drunken pirate. Kids aren't thinking that when they watch the comercials.

19. People today are to analytical, as well as unimaginative, and lack creativity. WHO IN THE HELL AS ENOUGH TIME ON THEIR HANDS TO CRITICIZE A FRUCKIN COMMERICAL! That's the problem with today's society, they are too busy telling children what is acceptable and unacceptable that kids are not kids anymore. I remember growing up and playing outside all of the time.I ate the cereal I liked the best and reading or watching Alice in Wonderland did not make me drop acid. Nor did Wild Cats turn me into a violent socio-patheic killer. It is the parents responisbility to teach your child morals, dignity, and respect. It is the parents responisbility to sit down with the child and explain that this is just a show or commericial, it's someones creative mind that created this and it is not real. GET REAL PEOPLE KIDS DON'T NOTICE THAT THE CAP'N SOUNDS LIKE HE'S DRUNK AND WHO THE HELL REALLY CARES! Wonder what's next they'll take the cereal off of the market while they keep an energy drink named "cocaine" on the market right? Yeah that's real good influencing and glamorization.

1. Does anyone remember the poster with the Capn' Crunch pledge on it..My little brother who is now 50 was a member of the Capn' Crunch Club and he would recite the pledge every night.....let me know...
