Cap'n Crunch begins
Like most classic cereal mascots, the voice of Cap'n Crunch has changed over the years, but one thing about his voice has always remained: no matter what era the commercial came from, the Cap'n always sounds like he's completely sauced. I'm completely serious, just watch any Cap'n Crunch commercial from any time period and the Cap'n will sound like he's just polished off a bottle of vodka. Why the hell they let him control a ship of any kind is beyond me. Daws Butler, the voice of Yogi Bear and several other Hanna-Barbera characters, provided the original voice of the Cap'n. The animation was done by Jay Ward Productions, creators of Rocky and Bullwinkle. According to Toonopedia, the Cap'n's full name was "Captain Horatio Magellan Crunch."

43. I too was a fan of Cap'n Crunch's peanut butter crunch cereal but let us not forget Crunchberry Cereal and the short lived Crunchberry Beast who really was probably Mrs. Crunch.

45. He doesn't sound at ALL drunk to me! He sounds like a friendly, jolly old sweetheart of a guy. As for his voice, he sounds like Jim Backus doing Snagglepuss. Heavens to Mergatroid!! Exit....stage left! Nautical style, even!
Yeah, it was cool back then partly because we DID play in the streets. Today's kids are usually inside because A: they're too involved in stupid video games or 2: their parents are too scared to let them out and plasy because some sick fucker might whisk them away and rape them, kill them, whatever. One of these days, I'm gonna set up the 4-track outside when the girls across the street are playing and just record them for a while. I REALLY miss the sound of kids playing. I've lived in this house all my life and seeing/hearing kids playing on the streets is something you just don't hear much anymore. Even when the girl's DO play outside, it's right in front of the house! We used to play in the entire neighborhood!
By the way, the other Captain spoken of here from Jay Ward was Capt. Wrongway Peachfuzz. HE didn't sound drunk, either. He was just dippy, hence the name, Wrongway. It was Paul Frees' version of Ed Wynn. He used a similar voice on a Spike Jones record from the early `60's. I guess Paul's version of Cap'n Crunch could've been Inspector Fenway on Dudley Dooright.

48. No we werent bouncing off the walls because of refined sugar,our PANCREAS levels/balances our blood sugar. Huge misconception about sugar. Only in a Diabetic does sugar mess us up.

52. amazing im 30 and i still eat the great tasting stuff. i just had it yesterday for breakfast. There is a kid inside of each and everyone of us. How many of us miss tom and jerry cartoons. The cartoons today suck. I miss heckle and jeckle. I know what does that have to do with capncrunch. well nothing. Love pebbles cerial too.

41. Did anyone notice the commercial is in black and white. Commercials Creativity is just begining to sprout. Eat the Cereal and enjoy it. Be sure to brush your teeth and floss.
