Trix were always for kids, it seems

Below is an early commercial for Trix cereal in which the rabbit actually manages to eat some of the cereal before he's caught by the selfish little bastards who refuse to share their cereal. When I was growing up in the '80s, the rabbit's plan was always thwarted before he even got his paws on the cereal, and I must say I always felt bad for him. What exactly was the lesson I was supposed to take from those ads? Never feed a hungry animal? Never share? If anyone asks for a bite of food tie them to a tree and run away? Either the kids got much smarter later or the rabbit got dumber. It's kind of a shame when you think about it.
