It's days like this I wish I had a blog that covered, say, movie marketing news. Lot of that in today's round-up.
- Sony Pictures is running a contest to promote the new Will Smith movie The Pursuit of Happyness (yes, that's how it's spelled - don't ask) that gives winners an internship at one of several big companies. Sony is using Grouper, the video sharing site they recently bought, to solicit audience testimonial videos of their life philosophy.
- Disney is deciding that, despite his less than politically correct behavior of late, Mel Gibson needs to be the lynchpin of the marketing campaign for his upcoming directorial effort Apocolypto. The studio apparently feels that Gibson has done his penance and that trying to downplay his involvement is just kind of ridiculous.
- A bunch of media bigwigs got together to roast recently fired Viacom exec Tom Freston. Freston even took himself down a few notches by unveiling a new project, his own MySpace page. In fact MySpace was a constant theme during the event, largely because one of the reasons Freston was reportedly canned was his failure to acquire MySpace for Viacom.
