Calacanis weighs in on online ad numbers

Weblogs, Inc's own version of version Don Corleone, Jason Calacanis has weighed in with his thoughts on why internet advertising is where it is current and predictions of how it will trend over the next. For the most part he sees the huge amounts of money currently being spent on the web as the result of the major portals finally being able to deliver TV-sized audience numbers and easy access to ad buying leading to more advertisers being online.

Calacanis sees this kind of increase trend continuing, absent some sort of catastrophic event, for the next 20 years. In fact it will likely get steeper, with the rate of spending increasing dramatically, because online video and audio spending haven't begun to really move the needle yet. Yes, he says, something like another war or significant economic event could have an effect but long-terms he's betting this will be the way the industry moves.
