Hot liquids will burn you. Most of us know this, and that's why many of us scoffed when a lady sued McDonald's after she was burned on their coffee all those years ago. It's also why I only consume coffee that's been frozen on a stick.
Now another lawsuit has reared its ugly head, this time in Indiana, where a couple is filing a suit against a Starbucks after a cup of hot chocolate seriously burned their little girl in 2004. The age of the girl was not released, but we do know she was in a child restraint seat, and that, according to her mother, who was driving the car at the time, skin was falling off the child's leg. The lawsuit claims that Starbucks' policy is to serve children's beverages at a lower temperature to avoid the child getting burned. Nevertheless, Starbucks claims they are not responsible for what happened.
I'm going to do the unthinkable and steer away from that blog tendency of spouting off on something whether I have all the facts or not, but putting this particular incident aside for the moment, it seems to me that once you have food inside your car of any kind, it's your responsibility to make sure the food your child has is secure before you pull away. No one knows exactly how this unfortunate accident transpired, but if any lesson can be learned from this, it's to never trust the alleged policies of any corporation.
