Irn Bru Snowman ad stirs controversy

Recently I mentioned the clever Irn Bru spot, a funny spoof of the animated holiday special The Snowman, based on the book by Raymond Briggs. The special is loved in the UK, and certainly not entirely unheard of in the United States, though I personally found it to be about as exciting as a sleeping pill. Anyway, health campaigners in Scotland, where Irn Bru is made and where the ad takes place, have come out against Barr's Irn Bru for using a children's character to promote the sugary drink, a move they feel is irresponsible. This comes on the heels of a recent ban on junk food ads shown during children's programming, imposed by Ofcom. The spot was created with the blessing of Briggs, the author of the book, though there seems to be some debate over whether Briggs was happy with the finished product.
