Rod Serling wasn't merely the creator and host of Twilight Zone and the Night Gallery. According to this old commercial for Radio Shack he also hung out in the bedrooms of little boys while they played with electronic hobby kits. I imagine the scene continued something like this:
Mom: Billy, are you okay up there?
Billy: Um, yeah.
Rod Serling: Jimmy Westlake, age ten.
Billy: It's Billy. I'm nine. Who are you?
Rod Serling: Billy is a genius when it comes to electronics, but befuddled by the laws of human emotion.
Billy: Get out of my room.
Rod Serling: But what Billy doesn't realize--
Billy: Seriously, get out.
Rod Serling: Is that his new toy will open a porthole. . .
Billy: MOM!!!
Rod Serling: . . . to the Twilight Zone.
[Billy kicks Rod Serling in the groin]
Rod Serling: [doubled over, wheezing] A man --he could be anyone you see on the street in your day to day life-- kicked in the balls by a small child. A brutal attack that could only happen in . . . the Twilight Zone.
Billy: Next Christmas I'm asking for a boardgame.
